چکیده

The objective of this study is to present a formal agent-based modeling (ABM) platform that enables managers to predict and partially control patterns of behaviors in certain engineered complex adaptive systems (ECASs). The approach integrates social networks, social science, complex systems, and di↵usion theory into a consumer-based optimization and agent-based modeling (ABM) platform. Demonstrated on the U.S. electricity markets, ABM is integrated with normative and subjective decision behavior recommended by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) and Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC). Furthermore, it has unique and significant contribution in exploring and representing concrete managerial insights for ECASs and o↵ering new optimized actions and modeling paradigms in agent-based simulation. The novel mathematical approach is a non-convex consumer-based optimization model that is integrated with an ABM in a game environment.

An Agent-Based Optimization Framework for Engineered Complex Adaptive Systems with Application to Demand Response in Electricity Markets by

The main objective of this research is to develop an integrated method to study emergent behavior and consequences of evolution and adaptation in engineered complex adaptive systems (ECASs). A multi-layer conceptual framework and modeling approach including behavioral and structural aspects is provided to describe the structure of a class of engineered complex systems and predict their future a...

A review of agent-based modeling (ABM) concepts and some of its main applications in management science

We live in a very complex world where we face complex phenomena such as social norms and new technologies. To deal with such phenomena, social scientists often use reductionism approach where they reduce them to some lower-lever variables and model the relationships among them through a scheme of equations. This approach that is called equation based modeling (EBM) has some basic weaknesses in ...

Intelligent multi-agent modeling of the interbank network and evaluation of the impact of regulatory policies

agent-based modeling is an emerging computational technique that makes it possible to simulate complex economic systems, including the banking network, with a bottom-up approach. In this paper, the country's banking network is simulated with an intelligent multi-agent modeling model and indicates that these agents behave based on the adaptive learning. This modeling has been done with the aim o...

Connections, Communication and Collaboration in Healthcare’s Complex Adaptive Systems; Comment on “Using Complexity and Network Concepts to Inform Healthcare Knowledge Translation”

A more sophisticated understanding of the unpredictable, disorderly and unstable aspects of healthcare organisations is developing in the knowledge translation (KT) literature. In an article published in this journal, Kitson et al introduced a new model for KT in healthcare based on complexity theory. The Knowledge Translation Complexity Network Model (KTCNM) provides a fresh perspective by mak...

RELIABILITY-BASED DESIGN OPTIMIZATION OF COMPLEX FUNCTIONS USING SELF-ADAPTIVE PARTICLE SWARM OPTIMIZATION METHOD

A Reliability-Based Design Optimization (RBDO) framework is presented that accounts for stochastic variations in structural parameters and operating conditions. The reliability index calculation is itself an iterative process, potentially employing an optimization technique to find the shortest distance from the origin to the limit-state boundary in a standard normal space. Monte Carlo simulati...
